Client Overview
Green Leaves Tree Care is a locally owned tree service company in Durham, North Carolina. They handle tree removal, pruning, and care for homeowners across the metro. Known for solid, dependable work, Green Leaves had a good reputation on lead apps, but almost no presence of their own online, which kept them dependent on paying for every job.
Scope of Work
We ran three connected pillars:
- Website Design: to replace a thin, one-page presence with a real, content-rich site built around Durham tree service homeowners.
- Local SEO: to start ranking for Durham tree service searches so Green Leaves owns that traffic instead of renting it.
- Google Business Profile & Reviews: to build the Google presence they were missing and move their goodwill onto the platform that actually drives local calls.
Objective
Green Leaves had built their reputation on platforms like HomeAdvisor and Angi, but they had almost no website and barely any Google presence of their own. That meant paying for nearly every lead and competing on price against other contractors buying the same ones. Their goal was to build something they owned, a real website and Google presence that brought in their own calls, so they could stop renting customers and grow on their own terms.
The Challenge
Green Leaves did good work, but they didn’t own their online presence. Here’s where they were stuck:
- No real website: They had little more than a thin, one-page online presence, no service pages, no local content, nothing for Google to rank. Without a real site, they had no way to earn their own organic traffic.
- Lead-app dependence: Most of their work came from shared lead apps, where the same job is sold to several companies and everyone races to underbid. It kept them on a treadmill instead of building anything lasting.
- Weak Google presence: Their reviews lived on third-party apps, not Google. Their Google Business Profile was thin, so they barely appeared in the Durham map pack where homeowners actually search.
Strategy and Execution
- Website Design: Built a Real Site. We built Green Leaves a proper website from scratch, fast, mobile-first, with real pages for removal, pruning, and tree care, plus local Durham content and easy quote forms. For the first time, they had an online home they owned.
Key Tactic: We gave every service a genuine, helpful page, turning a one-page placeholder into a site that could actually rank. - Local SEO: Earned Their Own Traffic. On the new site, we optimized titles, headers, and schema, targeted Durham tree service searches, and built local content so Green Leaves could start pulling in their own organic leads instead of buying them.
Key Tactic: We aimed each page at a specific Durham search, so the new site earned rankings the old one-pager never could. - Google Business Profile & Reviews: Built a Google Presence. We optimized their profile and set up a system to move their goodwill onto Google with steady reviews, building the map-pack presence they’d been missing entirely.
Key Tactic: We brought their reputation onto Google, the platform that actually drives local calls.
The Results
Within a few months, Green Leaves started owning their own lead flow.
A Real Website
For the first time, Green Leaves had a full, content-rich site, and it started ranking for Durham tree service searches their old one-pager never touched.
Local Keyword Rankings
They climbed into the top results for “tree service Durham NC” and ranked for removal and pruning searches across the metro.
Calls & Leads
Tracked calls and leads both grew, this time from their own site and profile, not a shared lead app.
Profile & Reviews
Google Business Profile views jumped, and a steady stream of new Google reviews built the local presence they never had.
Key Takeaways
- A one-page site can’t rank. Real content on real service pages is what earns organic traffic.
- Owned leads beat rented ones. A website and Google presence you own keep paying off; lead apps just keep charging.
- Get your reviews onto Google. Reviews on other apps don’t drive your map-pack ranking. Move them where they count.
- A real website is the foundation. Without one, you have no way to earn your own calls.
- Local content wins local jobs. Pages built around Durham searches bring in Durham customers.
- Stop competing on price. Owning your leads means you no longer race to underbid for shared ones.
Conclusion
Green Leaves Tree Care did good work but had almost no online presence of their own, leaving them dependent on shared lead apps. We built them a real website, started ranking them in Durham, and gave them a true Google presence. Their calls, leads, and profile views are all up, and the leads are ones they now own. Today, Green Leaves brings in its own Durham customers instead of renting them.
