Client Overview
Westring Construction is a locally owned remodeling company serving Madison, Wisconsin. They handle kitchen, bathroom, and whole-home remodels for area homeowners. A newer, owner-operated business with a strong 4.8-star rating, Westring did excellent work, but they were competing against long-established remodeling firms with decades of history and far more reviews.
Scope of Work
We ran three connected pillars:
- Local SEO: to build content and authority that could climb past established competitors.
- Google Business Profile & Reviews: to grow review volume and strengthen the map pack.
- Google Ads: to compete for high-value remodel searches while organic rankings grew.
Objective
Westring was the underdog. They ranked around #4 for “home remodeling contractor Madison WI,” sitting behind legacy firms that had been in business for decades. With a thinner website and fewer reviews, they were being out-positioned despite doing great work. Their goal was to build the content, authority, and reviews to climb past the established players, and win a bigger share of Madison’s high-value remodel projects.
The Challenge
Westring had the skills, but they were outgunned on paper. Here’s where they were stuck:
- Thin content: Their website didn’t have the depth, detailed service pages, project galleries, helpful content, that established competitors used to dominate. Google had less reason to rank a thinner site over older, deeper ones.
- Outranked by legacy firms: At #4, they sat behind remodelers with decades of history and far more reviews. Beating established players takes more than good work, it takes a deliberate authority-building plan.
- Fewer reviews: With around 26 reviews, Westring’s strong rating wasn’t backed by enough volume to compete in the map pack against firms with hundreds.
Strategy and Execution
- Local SEO: Built Content and Authority. We expanded their site with detailed pages for each remodel type, added project galleries and helpful planning content, and built local relevance with Madison-focused pages and schema. Then we earned quality links and citations to build the authority that moves rankings.
Key Tactic: We gave Google deep, genuinely helpful content plus real authority signals, the things that let a newer firm outrank older ones. - Google Business Profile & Reviews: Closed the Volume Gap. We optimized their profile and set up an automatic review system to steadily grow their review count, closing the gap with established firms and strengthening their map-pack position.
Key Tactic: We turned every finished remodel into a review, building the volume an underdog needs to compete. - Google Ads: Competed While Climbing. We ran targeted Google Ads for high-value Madison remodel searches so Westring could win projects right away, while their organic rankings grew underneath.
Key Tactic: We used paid ads to compete for premium projects immediately, not waiting months for SEO to mature.
The Results
Within a few months, the underdog started closing the gap.
